After living, hearing, and reading the stories of those pursuing Mormon heterodoxy or those who break with the church, we realized that a common thread running through many of these stories are “the letters,” that piece of communication from concerned family members, friends, or church leaders. Similarly, many peoples’ move away from orthodox Mormonism includes moments of reaching out to communicate with others: articulating thoughts, (dis)beliefs, and perspectives; offering or asking for explanations; and generally responding to the questions, thoughts, and concerns of family, friends, and leaders.
Realizing that these moments of communication—whether they’re positive or negative, loving or violent, productive or otherwise—seem to be fairly common events in the experience of moving toward heterodoxy, we felt it would be important to provide a place to share these conversations, to begin building a record of these particular moments in the broader Mormon experience. MormonPost is that place.
MormonPost.org is committed to keeping a record of the conversations surrounding heterodoxy and dissent. We hope to shed light on the reality of what dissension and heterodoxy means for formally orthodox members.
MormonPost.org is sensitive to protecting and keeping the anonymity of these conversations, but we will be naming well-known public figures or organizations who have had letters addressed to them specifically or who have replied or written letters of their own.
We welcome questions, comments, concerns and conversations at any time. Please email us at MormonPost@gmail.com.
